The Big One-100 lbs Lost Celebration: BTI's First Giveaway!

Hello again!

So first off thanks to all of your lovely congratulations on my last post. I truly have the best readers around and I am so grateful :)

Now, sit back and relax, because this one might get a little lengthy.

In celebration of losing 100 lbs, I decided a while back that I wanted to host a special giveaway on the blog. I really didn't think that I would hit that milestone this week, so I'm still a little shocked :)

On to the first part of the giveaway. One reader will win a fabulous Summer Glo Variety Pack from Glo Bakery! In case you don't know, Glo Bakery offers healthy, natural, organic baked goods. The pack will include a random mix of various bars that the bakery offers. Check out the website to see some of the different flavours :)

Also, check out Glo Bakery's owner, Angela's blog, Oh She Glows. OSG was one of the first blogs that I ever read. I love Angela's story of changing her life around to pursue her passions and her happiness. I feel like I'm trying to do the same thing with my health journey and that's just one of the many reasons why I love Angela's blog. So check it out :)

The second part of this celebratory post is another giveaway. This second giveaway will be a $100 donation from me to one of the international organizations that I love. The winner of the Summer Glo Variety Pack also gets to choose which charity the donation will go to :)

I wanted to include this donation in the giveaway for a couple of reasons. First, it just makes sense to support such wonderful groups :) Second, these organizations and the work that they do have really contributed to my journey for better health.

Let me explain :) Before this attempt to lose weight and find health, I was stuck in a deep and dark rut. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, and I really believed that I would be stuck at 340 lbs (or more) for good. I was unhappy and I was confused, just coasting by. Then, in my second year of university I took an amazing course on international development, in which I was introduced to the global issues and problems that I now want my work to deal with. That course blew my whole world open. I began to search for organizations and groups that were working on these issues. Once I figured out that I wanted to go into aid work, my whole mindset changed. I knew that if I wanted to pursue this kind of work, I had to get my health in check. I had to change.

Now, when I'm struggling to make healthy choices, when I don't want to get off the couch and work on my fitness, I remember that if I want to follow my passion and find my own happiness, I have to get and stay healthy to do the work that I believe I am supposed to be doing.

So...it is only fitting that I give a little thanks to one of these organizations. Part of me feels like they really saved my life :)

I've narrowed it down to 5 options (hello nearly impossible task!):
If you're not familiar with all of the amazing work that these groups do then just click on the links and head on over to their websites.

So the way this will work is as follows. There are a couple of ways to enter the giveaway (I'm totally stealing these from what I see on other blogs lol):
  • Follow the blog and leave me a comment on this post saying that you follow (if you already are a follower just say that in the comment).
  • Post about this giveaway on your blog or on Twitter and leave me a comment on this post with a link.
  • Leave a separate comment on this post telling me about the best thing you ever did for your health and happiness.
So that's 3 ways to enter. Now, this is very important, on each comment that you leave, include whichever of the 5 groups above that you think I should send the donation to.

Make sense? I hope so :)

Fine print: The giveaway is open to Canadian and US residents. You have until next Friday, July 30 to enter. I will randomly pick a winner the next day.

Lastly, thank you all so much for reading and commenting. You all have been unbelievable and I never could have expected such an amazing community of support. I am very lucky and very thankful :)

Have a great day everyone!

  4. You are amazing!
To try to improve my health after being lazy for what seemed like forever, I purchased a bike and have been riding ever since. I've even started to look into a new bike. I also take spin classes at my gym. I'm hoping to get into Yoga, but have yet to find a class that fits my schedule.
Keep doing what you are doing!

  5. Way to go, Amanda! I also read Angela's blog and one of the best things I did for my health/happiness was to TAKE CONTROL. No more excuses, I am in charge of myself and my body and I am going to take care of it. Keep up the great work :)

  6. Congrats to you on an incredible accomplishment! The best thing I've done to for my health has been the simple act of education - largely through following healthy living blogs. Learning tips, tricks, recipes, etc and getting inspiration from others' personal experiences and daily journaling....that's a major factor in keeping me on track day-to-day.

  7. Congratulations!! The best thing I've done for my health has been trying to be more conscious of what I'm putting in my mouth. I try to eat nutritionally dense foods rather than just low-calorie or low-fat (which is what I did in college. I have also made it part of my routine to work out regularly so that it is more difficult to skip it than just do it!

  8. AMAZING!!! I've been following your blog for a while now (though I'm now offficially following) and your progress is inspirational! One of the best things I've done for my health besides WW and exercising more is actually blogging and reading other healthy living blogs. Whenever I have a bad day I just read and write and it's calming just to know that I'm not the only one out there. You're amazing! (P.S. I'd choose Free the Children! Craig Kielburger is amazing and does so much PR for his organization and you can see the money really working, just my opinion though Keep up the awesome work!)

  9. That's so inspiring about your healthy life changes! The best thing I ever did for my health and happiness was to decide to leave my eating disorder in the dust. I have wonderful friends who saw me wasting away before their very eyes and they helped me and supported me back to health. I am very healthy now and I enjoy food. I don't feel like I'm stuck in a mental prison.

I love OSG! I read it every day. That's how I found your blog. For my charity, I would choose UNICEF. I learned a lot about it when I visited the red cross in switzerland a couple years ago. Have a good evening and keep up the good work!

  15. Congratulations!!!! You are awesome!

I am following your blog via Google and I think it is wonderful that as part of your celebration you want to donate money. It makes me so happy.
You make it hard to choose a charity by picking such worthy options, but I think that I would have to go with Free the Children.

    Thank you!

  16. The best thing that I did for myself is that I started yoga 3 years ago. It made me love and respect my body and realize how amazing it is because of all the wonderful things that it can do.

  18. Hi! I love your blog and I love GloBars. The best thing I ever did for my health and happiness was to quit weighing myself and listening to what others thought was healthy for me. Instead, I embraced my love for cooking and nutrition, and healed myself from calorie counting, starvation, body comparison and self loathing. I dropped 20 pounds, and found a passion for health and exercise. Six years after that, I became completely free of seizures I used to have due to glucose intolerance and live a full and vibrant life where I exercise daily, eat healthy and have even completed my Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and hope to get my Masters next year in Food Studies. Food used to be prison for me, and how it is freedom. I started a blog six months ago and am inspired to share my journey and passion for life, health, exercise and food with others through the blog and my career.

Thanks for sharing your passion for health. The more of us there are, the more we can help who are still in the imprisonment that I used to be in.

    Cheers to Health,

  21. Hi! Here from OSG! I love your idea for a blog--I too am on the weightloss journey, and I have 110 lbs to go. I will be following!!

Hmm...I can't say the best thing I ever did for me--I don't take very good care of myself. I would guess the best thing I ever did for myself was give up soda. Tons of money and calories saved!

I choose Free The Children as well!!

  26. First of all, congrats on your achievement, that is awesome and needs to be celebrated! You truly deserve it!
I applaud you for celebrating your pounds lost by giving to charity, man you are one nice girl!
I have read your blog but haven't commented yet, however such an achievement needed to be acknowledged! And I will comment here about the favorite breakfast... how can we not like overnight oats, right?!
I would like to participate in the giveaway, and I choose the World Food Program for the charity.
But truly, I think that if I win I won't mind letting you choose the charity that is closest to your heart and where you would love most to see your donation go to. You are a blessed girl and when we give a little we make ourselves happy in double so this is surely the way to go!

Again, I pick World Food Program but they are all great charities! And congrats again on your awesome achievment!

  30. Hello!

I found your blog through OSG, and I love it!

The best thing I did for my health and happiness was making exercise and healthy eating my top priorities. No matter how busy I am, I make time to cook good food, and go the gym.

    Oh- and Free the Children!

  31. Hello!

Once again, I'd like to congratulate you on your huge success! You are an inspiration to anyone and everyone who has ever struggled with their weight!

The best thing I did for my health was taking a stand, and saying enough was enough and I re committed myself to weight watchers, joined a bootcamp and started kettle bell training! Since then I haven't looked back, I've lost 42 pounds and counting! You are such an inspiration! You're living proof that this program really does work and that reaching your goals is always in reach.

Keep up the good work! I'd choose Free the Children if selected!

    Thanks!

  34. The best thing I've done for my health and happiness was change the way I thought about myself both inside and out. (There's been progress, but I still have leaps and bounds to go) I didn't always see what others saw when I looked in the mirror. I always had negative thoughts, saw a person that was much bigger than I actually was and would limit myself from enjoying food daily.. this lasted for about 4 years. I finally got to the point where I knew something needed to change because I was miserable, sad, and the negative thoughts always outweighed positive ones. I started exercising, found things I enjoyed and now I feel great. Exercising it something POSITIVE that I can have in my life daily like a great friend. I switched out limiting my food intake to eating healthier whole foods and also started with a positive thought about myself each day. It truly works, even if sometimes it's hard and easier to take two steps back. Just have to keep on truckin'! :) (Wow that's longer than I thought, sorry!)

My vote again is for World Food Program!

  38. The best thing I've ever done (and am still in the process of integrating completely into my life) is cutting out the processed food. When I did that, I immediately started feeling better. I also am now more motivated to exercise and ride my bike (I rode 15 miles yesterday! First time for me, very very good ride :). And only eating when I'm hungry. It's going well so far, and I am starting to see a difference as well :)

Also, vote for free the children again.
